Shadow o' the Raven

Original Air: Granny's Hielan' Hame

Author's note: This is really about Nicholas. It's always about Nicholas. At least, that's what Lacroix says.

In Toronto's fair city, there stands a dark loft
On th'industrial side o' the toon
Wherein lives a vampire they say has "goon soft"
And his pain brings the other vamps doon...

CHORUS:
'Neath the shadows o' the Raven
Where the vampires meet
Tae find a bottle, or a meal,
Or dance on undead feet,

Ye may find an angsting vampire
Who wants to end his pain --
Who wants to make up for his past
An' find his soul again.

For day after day, 'tis noo several long years
He patrols o'er the homicide beat
Both alone and wi' partners, he searches for klews
Tha' will bring criminals their defeat,

At times he will sigh, never nooing if he
Can for cent'ries of sin still atone --
So many he's killed -- both for hunger and love --
And for justice, where law was unknown...

CHORUS:
'Neath the shadows o' the Raven
Where the vampires meet
Tae find a bottle, or a meal,
Or dance on undead feet,

Ye may find an angsting vampire
Who wants to end his pain --
Who wants to make up for his past
An' find his soul again.

At his side is the maiden some say that he lo'es;
He will never admit hoo he feels.
For if he lo'es a mortal, the mortal must dee:
It is hoo his vampiric sire deals --

Once -- lang, aul' lang syne, when his sister they met
The young lass was entranced by his sire
Whose stories and rhymes did beguile her in time
'Til she yearned tae become a vampire...

CHORUS:
'Neath the shadows o' the Raven
Where the vampires meet
Tae find a bottle, or a meal,
Or dance on undead feet,

Ye may find an angsting vampire
Who wants to end his pain --
Who wants to make up for his past
An' find his soul again.

Now his master comes calling, as oft he will do
When oor hero is stuck in a slump
And says he'd be happy if only he'd be
A vampire, and this mortal life dump

Yet oor hero's a conscience unknown by his sire,
Being mortal in different times
Wha' th' Romans thought normal, Crusaders thought dire
An' oor hero kens killing a crime...

CHORUS:
'Neath the shadows o' the Raven
Where the vampires meet
Tae find a bottle, or a meal,
Or dance on undead feet,

Ye may find an angsting vampire
Who wants to end his pain --
Who wants to make up for his past
An' find his soul again.
